Public Hearing Held for AEIS Report

The Evant Administration reviewed the AEIS repor= t and answered questions regarding the districts academic standing. Evant ISD is rated as a recognized district, and failed to receive an exemplary status by two percentage point= s in Science. We are very excited = about the progress the teachers and students are making toward an exemplary district. The Teachers at Eva= nt ISD are not accepting failure as an option from their students.

2010-2011 School Calendar Approved

The administration presented, and the board unanimously approved, the 2010-2011 school calendar, which includes 9 flex days. T= hese “flex days” will be used to offer dynamically different instruc= tion to students who do not meet the criteria to be exempt from the 9 flex days. Exemptions will be dete= rmined by a student’s absences, discipline standing, test scores, and academ= ic progress in the current year. Students who meet this criteria will not be required to a= ttend the 9 flex days at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.<= /b>

Principals Report

Mr. Slone reported having only 5 students on the failure list after the second six weeks reporting period. He also reported a high attendance percentage and success from the Elementary and JH Academic UIL competition.=

Employee and Teacher of the Month Recognized

The Evant Board of Trustees officially recognize= d Elizabeth Gandy as teacher of the month for October, and Maria and Ubaldo Hernandez as employee of the Month for October.

Evant ISD Teachers Get New Technology Equipment<= o:p>

The Board of Trustees voted unanimously in Novem= ber to purchase new technology equipment for Evant ISD classrooms. The new equipment, called “E= lmo Carts”, will allow teachers to offer enhanced instruction through the= use of a laptop computer, speakers, a projector, and elmo. The administration believes this will result in a more learner centered approac= h to education. Most of today̵= 7;s students work with technology on a daily basis. We are attempting to reach our stu= dents on a common ground and grasp their attention in a 21^st century classroom setting.

Evant Enrollment Steadily Declining

The administration reported a current enrollment= of 230 students. In August, Evan= t ISD had a student enrollment of 252. State funding is based on student enrollment and ADA (average daily attendance). A decline in student enrollment wi= ll result in less funding from the State.&nbs= p; The Evant Administration will be evaluating ways to trim the 2010-20= 11 expenditure budget to reflect the declining enro= llment and reduction in revenue. Eva= nt ISD offers free dual credit college courses, small class sizes, a recognized district, athletic success, and technology enhanced instruction. The Evant Administration welcomes = any student who wishes to benefit from our programs to come by the school and g= ive us a visit.
